Sexuality education depends on communication. People need a way to ask questions, say yes or no, share what they know, and say when they are not comfortable. When someone has limited or unreliable speech, those options may not be available to them.
Communication boards and cards are assistive devices designed with graphics and words to support communication and assess understanding for people with limited and/or unreliable speech, trauma history, or anxiety. Communication and learning can be enhanced by supporting a person in pointing, gesturing, and/or gazing at the various images and terms. These supports can also be used with non-readers or any learner to assess knowledge.
These boards and cards pair clear pictures with words a person can point to, gesture toward, or look at. There are boards and cards for every lesson, so people with limited or unreliable speech, a trauma history, or anxiety can take part in every class.
